Depression or Bust by Mack Reynolds This sci-fi novel was written in 1974, and it is Reynolds' idea of what the current times would be like. Like many other science fiction writers of his time and earlier, his guess for the future grossly overestimated the technological advances that would be made. The overall plot is underdeveloped, but the idea is that there is a depression, similar to the depression of the 1930s. The president is a total incompetent, more idiotic than the most idiotic of Bush chariacatures. His press manager is the real brains behind the operation, but his main focus is getting into the secretary's bottomless skirt. The cold war is ended by the depression because the US is too poor for the Soviets to care about. To end the depression, the secretary finally finds the first man who decided to return a product that he couldn't afford, and gives him money to spend. This book is humourous, but not much else. Happy reading.
